Frequently Asked Questions
Below are our FAQs, if you don’t find the answer you are looking for please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help.
How much does a house alarm system cost?
Our standard home alarm system costs £xxx and includes:
- All control equipment
- 1 user keypad
- 1 live bell box
- 1 dummy bell box
- 2 PIR’s (Passive Infra-Red) detectors, i.e. movement detectors
- 1 door contact
- All cabling, fitting and operating instructions
- VAT
- 1 years’ service and maintenance contract
This new home alarm system would provide a certain level of protection for the average house. Depending on the size, layout and location of your property, extra detection may be necessary to ensure proper protection from intruders. If this is the case, our surveyor will advise you and prepare a quote based on appropriate protection for your property.
Will there be any extra ‘hidden’ costs?
No. What you see on our Quotation is what you will pay and this includes installation, VAT and a 12 month service and maintenance contract.
If I ask you for a quote, am I under any obligation to buy from you?
Certainly not. Our surveyors need to visit your property to assess the design of the alarm system that will best fit your needs and give you a competitive quote – not to try and make a sale there and then. It is entirely up to you if you wish to go ahead or raise any queries. We work hard to maintain our high reputation and this is evidenced by the fact that over two thirds of our sales come from other customers’ recommendations.
Can you tailor a system to my budget?
Yes, as long as we’re happy that we’d be installing a security system that provides an appropriate level of protection.
How do I know I can trust Secure One to do a good job?
We are an NSI NACOSS Gold accredited firm. This means the products we use and our quality management systems, including the security screening of staff, represent the gold standard of certification as far as police, fire, rescue services and insurers are concerned.
Secure One is also an NICEIC Approved Contractor, meaning we are regularly assessed on our technical and safety standards and comply with the relevant codes of practice.
How long will the alarm installation take?
In the majority of home alarm fittings, just one day. A larger installation may go over into a second day.
Will I be left with cables and wires showing after the alarm is installed?
We offer both wired and wireless options for your house alarm system, but even with a wired solution, most of our Engineers are also fully qualified electricians and very skilled in running cables carefully under the floorboards and in the roof space, etc. After they’ve finished you will be surprised how the detectors were placed with no evidence of any wires or cables on show.
Is the alarm system installation going to be messy?
Our engineers always clear up after themselves so you won’t be left with any mess.
Once the alarm is installed, who does it belong to?
It’s all yours.
Is the system guaranteed?
Yes, it comes with a 12 month guarantee for all parts and labour.
Is it possible to be notified if my alarm goes off while I'm not at home?
With the secure one app you are always in fully control, if the system activated you will immediately be notified via the app on your mobile phone. You can even set and unset the system remotely.
I recently bought a new home that has a secure one alarm system already installed. Can I use it?
Probably, but we’ll need to check everything’s working OK. Give us a call and we’ll go through your options.
What is a monitored alarm system?
A monitored alarm system is one that is connected by a telephone line to a specialist alarm monitoring company at an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). They remotely monitor thousands of alarms and alert the relevant Police authority if an alarm is activated (it is a myth that monitored alarm systems link directly to police stations).
Does a monitored alarm system cost more?
Yes, because the security systems are more expensive to run due to annual monitoring charges (which we have to pay to the monitoring company) and maintenance must be carried out twice a year to meet ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) requirements. It may be that a monitored system is appropriate for your property protection needs. Our surveyor can advise you.
What does a home alarm maintenance contract include?
An annual Health Check visit – a full and thorough maintenance service on your house alarm by one of our team of highly-skilled alarm specialists.
Engineers ready for call-outs every day of the year, 24/7. In the event of an alarm fault, our team of professionals will always be there to respond to your call.
No charge for call-outs or repairs and preferential rates offered for the price of any parts required.
I didn’t buy my alarm from secure one, can I still take out a maintenance contract?
Yes, we offer maintenance cover on most alarms, except for DIY and radio controlled systems. Contact us for more information and prices.
Is a maintenance contract compulsory?
For an audible, or “bells-only”, system: no. However, we do recommend one for these reasons:
It provides peace of mind that, should our assistance be required, we will always be on hand. There is no charge for any call-out to alarm faults and maintained customers receive priority and lower prices for parts, if they are required.
You may be eligible for a discount from your home insurers who usually offer discounts for properties with a NSI NACOSS approved alarm as long as it’s protected by a maintenance agreement.
It includes an annual “health check” visit.
If you have a monitored system an annual maintenance check is compulsory to conform with ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) rules regarding policing of monitored alarm incidents.
If I telephone you will I be able to talk to a person rather than a machine?
Yes! Taking our customers’ calls is vital to us. If we are very busy your call will still be routed to someone, most likely one of the Directors.
Are the engineers really available 365 days a year 24hrs a day?
Yes if you are on a service and maintenance plan you can contact us on our emergency telephone number 0345 303 4000
Where are you based? Won’t a local company give me quicker service?
We are a local company – our Engineers are based from home in your county so that we can give a speedy, locally based service over a very large area. Our Head Office is in Enderby, Leicester.
Do you have any proof from previous customers that they received good service?
